Who would believe that iPad illustrations can be this detailed? I know I can draw something pretty decent using vector art, but not as detailed. Are you the kind of painter who loves to make instant sketches when inspiration strikes? Imagine yourself gathering an audience you want to impress without being the traditional painter who carries in public a large canvass, a stand and a huge set of painting tools. That would be such a mess to set up. Today’s new age painter will only need to draw iPad illustrations with painting apps like Brushes or Sketchbook Pro for the iPad, and his artistic finger to paint on the screen. I found these them while browsing for some mobile art and I came across the Brushes group in flickr that showcases a gallery of some amazing iPhone and iPad illustrations. These painters are very talented and took advantage of the large screen resolution with lots of detail and creativity. I handpicked my most favorites and thought of sharing them here. Enjoy!

hey Jakes, yes I’m accepting guest posts now :) My comments are getting hard to scroll even if I have a few of them so I did some changes before more comments (hopefully) arrive.
I cant believe it either. I have the Brushes app on my iPhone and its so hard to manage doing a decent lineart. I guess it goes with a lot of practice and playing with different brush techniques.
Thanks Jakes!

Thanks James! Yes its a lot of work indeed to create artwork such as these that have a lot of impact. There must be a lot of fingerprints on the screen before you get to finish a piece… but maybe worth the effort :)

Cindy,
Have you gotten an iPad yet? Originally I did not want one, I even wrote about why I didn’t want one. But after playing with one at work one day. I think I might be getting one next year, if its in my design budget.

James,
nope, I dont have an iPad yet. But seeing people can draw this good on an iPad compared to a wacom tablet, budget-wise, I would want an iPad as well.
Gonna check out why you didnt want one so I know what to expect.

That artwork is amazing! Being I have trouble drawing a circle in Photoshop I can appreciate this. I think drawing on the computer is much more difficult than drawing on paper.
I finally got a link to your site from mine…I just love my graphic! You are very talented. :)

Hey Melinda, thanks :) Drawing on the computer using a mouse is hard. Drawing in paper or wacom is better especially if you have a huge canvass to work on with lots of space to play with.
I’m going to add yours too!

Maybe. The only way I would get an iPad would be to give it away for a contest though. Want an iPad?
